The properties of light and water, different at every time of day and in every season provide the instant attraction of staying at Sumahan - a hotel on the water. Sumahan is just outside of Cengelkoy, situated in Istanbul, Turkey, that still preserves an authentic Bosphorus neighborhood. It is a village of wooden houses, seafood restaurants and seaside promenades. At the Sumahan, the most intoxicating thing is the view of palaces, skyscrapers, Hagia Sophia and the sparkling strait. European starlets keep a low profile in the residential-style lobby, with its steel crossbeams, high ceilings and glowing fireplaces.
There is a choice of suites and rooms, each with their own personality, most with fireplaces, but all with magnificent views. In the purity of its conception, the choice of wood and marble, steel and brick, fabrics and linens, Sumahan sets a standard in restoration architecture and interior design. The furnishings are contemporary; the large bathrooms are well-appointed with thick Turkish towels and a choice of traditional colognes and special toiletries including rich natural soaps. Many of the rooms have their own Turkish-style bath or hamam. Rooms vary from deluxe rooms to executive suites; the hotel also has family loft suites.
At Sumahan, the Kordon Restaurant which was established in 1989 and moved to its present seaside location in 2001, is a la carte restaurant featuring seafood and Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant serves traditional Turkish dishes, with seafood plucked from the Black Sea; at its dockside tables you can watch boats sailing beneath the
